Who is involved in Healthy Spines?
The main people involved in the Healthy Spines Program are:
- School Principals
- Teachers of Year 3 through 5
- Students in Year 3 through 5
- Parents/guardians of students
- Healthy Spines Team Members
Two people have a national overview and support the program and Healthy Spines Team Members:
- National Healthy Spines Program Manager - Dr Paula Stacey: Paula was the person who started the Healthy Spines program
in South Australia. She has run the program several times in South Australian primary schools, teaches in the training program, and is a Healthy Spines Team Leader for Team
Members based in SA, WA and NSW. She is the most experienced person in delivering the program.
- National Healthy Spines Program Consultant - Kathleen Stacey: After helping Paula to get Healthy Spines started, Kathleen
was asked to join the team officially. She took on the role of training the volunteer chiropractors in health promotion and working with schools, designed the classroom and
school community program and handbooks, and has evaluated all annual programs run so far.
Healthy Spines Team Members must 'qualify' to be involved to ensure there are well trained people running the program
in schools. They complete an intensive and comprehensive 70-hour training program focused on health promotion and working with schools,
which is developed and taught by specialists in health promotion and health education in schools.
All Healthy Spines Team Members are volunteer chiropractors who are health professionals with specialist knowledge in
spinal health. They attend workshops, and complete follow-up reading, written journals and classroom observations.
They must do this before they are approved to approach schools and invite their participation in a Healthy Spines program.
