What is the Healthy Spines Program?

Healthy Spines is a national health promotion program in Australia focused on improving and promoting spinal health and spinal care in school communities. It has two main goals:
  1. To improve knowledge and practice of spinal health and spinal care among primary school students.
  2. To increase the ability of school communities to promote spinal health and spinal care through appropriate policies and environments.
The other sections in this part of the website provide more information on all aspects of Healthy Spines. Here is a copy of the brief Healthy Spines Program Overview. Details on the Healthy Spines classroom activities are in the Healthy Spines Classroom Program fact sheet.

Health promoting schools

The work of Healthy Spines fits with the approach taken by schools who become registered as 'health promoting schools' in Australia. The Health Promoting Schools Program is an initiative of the World Health Organisation. There is also an Australian Health Promoting Schools Association.
